Beware of impersonating your friend

KakaoTalk has introduced helpful features, such as "globe signal" and "stranger signal" alerts, to protect users from phishing attacks that impersonate their acquaintances. These features display a pop-up when a non-friend enters a chatroom in an attempt to engage in a conversation, and emphasize the need to take precaution against money requests on top of the chatroom after they enter the chatroom.
If the other chat user is using KakaoTalk with a domestic mobile number (Korean carrier), an orange profile image will be shown as a precaution to help users recognize the possibility of impersonation. If the other chat user is using KakaoTalk with a foreign mobile number (non-Korean carrier), an orange globe-like profile image and the country information of their carrier will be displayed.
KakaoTalk continues to apply security safeguards to protect users from messenger phishing as imposter scams evolve into various forms. Please read and familiarize yourself with the relevant content to protect yourself.
If an unknown user attempts phishing by impersonating your acquaintance, please click the Report button at the top of the chatroom.
